Scarry? not really...
Just gotta respect them for what they do.
I think they are fascinating creatures.
Love to take spider macros, it's just that I don't have the proper gear to do it properly.

She (lets just say it's a female , but who knows ...:) ) really gave me a few scares, trying to protect her eggs.
It was tricky, but after a while she settled and let me take a few photos (yep, there's another one >:) [link] )

Definitely female. You can tell by the pedipalps and, generally speaking, the females do all the guarding of the egg sacks. And trust me when I say that wolf spiders can really bite hard. :D I got pegged in the palm of my hand once after I got over-excited when I found this HUGE female wolf spider... I just reached down and grabbed her in my hand and *ZING* she really got me good. :)

Yeah, you're wright, I've noticed that males have bulkier pedipalps. And I don't think that male spiders have paternal feelings
Never had the "chance" to experience a spider bite, and I hope I never will.
I generally don't touch spiders, cause I know that many of them can be dangerous. I Just love photographing them, or just watching them do their stuff.
:)

Yeah, they are all a little venemous, but not very many are dangerous to us... unless you are allergic. Males are usually smaller (body) and leggy with larger pedipalps. They use the pedipalps for breeding (the deposit sperm in a little web, then suck it up into the "bulbs" of the pedipalps... then they basically convince the female they are not dinner, grab her so she cannot bite them, and insert their palps into her gonopore.

Yes, they are fascinating creatures. But then again, they are scary creatures :D Brrrr...:fear: I sure would like to take spider macros :) If only I could bare staying in the same room with one. :D
